Dimensions: 34.5" x 44"

Materials: Cotton, embroidery floss and cotton thread.

Techniques: Machine appliqué, machine piecing, hand and domestic-machine quilting.

Artist’s Statement:
I wanted to reflect our history and celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary using a modern design aesthetic. The central maple leaf conveys the idea of our cultural mosaic. It has 13 reds for our provinces and territories, 1867 for the year of confederation and two thread colours for our official languages. The red hand-stitched maple leaf in the upper right represents our little country in 1867 (only four provinces and 3.4 million people).
