Artist’s Statement:
ABA form—the overall mood is profound, dark and brooding. Section One—Lento (slow): the work opens with three bold descending unisons. This descending pattern repeats softly over and over combining with other chordal material. Section Two—Agitato: the music builds and builds until it erupts into an explosion of notes. Rachmaninoff’s nationality is evident in the Russian domes. Section Three— Lento: reflects the rich chords which are present throughout.
